What Does It Mean to “Be Masculine”?

When most people think about masculinity, they think about qualities like being bold, direct, or taking the lead. But what if masculinity is more than a set of traits? From an embodied, or body-based perspective, masculinity involves connecting deeply with certain physical qualities. During a recent five-day event, for example, we guided men in learning to “let women in,” helping them realize that true attraction happens when they stay grounded in their masculine energy without needing to push or prove anything.

Many guys focus too much on seductive approaches, trying to mirror the image of a “Don Juan.” They attempt to be magnetic or seductive but often miss the essence of grounded masculinity. They lean in, and as they do, they unintentionally slip into an insecure or “needy” energy that can push others away.

Resting in Your Masculine: What Does it Look Like?

To really embody masculinity is to create space—a container where others, particularly women, can step into their femininity. When you’re grounded in your own masculinity, you’re able to hold a calm, steady energy. Resting in this state allows women to naturally embody their femininity around you without any forced effort on your part.

Being masculine, in this sense, isn’t about constant action. Even if you’re an artist or someone naturally attuned to your creative flow (which can be a more “feminine” energy), you can shift into this grounded, masculine space when with a partner. You’re simply relaxing into your lower body, grounding yourself through your core, back, and legs, creating stability in your presence.

Exploring the Body’s Polarity

Think of the body as having both masculine and feminine elements: the front of the body, the inside of the arms, and the pelvis tend to be softer, more vulnerable, and expressive. The back, the outer arms, and the outside of the legs, on the other hand, carry a grounded, supportive energy. When you connect with these areas of the body intentionally, you can embody that grounded, protective aspect of masculinity without saying a word.

For example, try noticing what the back of your legs or the outside of your arms feel like as you walk. This subtle shift in awareness brings a stable energy to your movements and makes you feel more grounded. Walking in this way lets you embody confidence and calm that people can pick up on.

Allowing the Feminine to Flow In

When you’re connected with the masculine parts of your body, you create a safe space for the feminine energy in others to naturally flow. Imagine meeting a woman and giving her a heartfelt, open gaze.

Instead of leaning in with neediness, you stay grounded, letting her energy come to you. You give her space to express her true self and to feel safe doing so, while you remain in that calm, steady, grounded state. This balance is magnetic. It draws people in, inviting authentic connection without any scripted lines or forced seduction.

The Inner Dance of Masculine and Feminine

As you become more comfortable resting in your masculine energy, you’ll notice others respond by stepping into their feminine, especially in romantic settings. This dynamic is often evident when couples feel safe and understood in each other’s presence, leading to a natural exchange of energy. Women, when they feel safe with a masculine partner, relax into their femininity, becoming expressive, soft, and vulnerable. This is not just about physical attraction but about mutual enjoyment and fulfillment.

Bringing This Embodied Masculinity into Everyday Life

This practice can go far beyond romantic connections. When you are fully in your body, feeling grounded and aware of your masculine energy, you’ll find that life feels richer. You start to appreciate the small things in life—moments of beauty, shared laughter, and genuine conversations. This shift not only enhances your relationships but also brings you a deeper sense of fulfillment, confidence, and calm.
